Periodic real-time scheduling: from deadline-based model to latency-based model

چکیده
This paper presents a connection between two real-time models: a deadline-based model and a latency-based model. The importance of the latency-based model is proved through a result showing that two deadlines, instead of a latency constraint, over-constrain the realtime applications. Moreover, we give a deadline-marking algorithm based on the relation between deadlines and latency constraints. This algorithm provides non-preemptive feasible schedules for systems with precedence constraints and deadlines, or more complex systems with deadlines and latencies. This is the first step toward non-preemptive schedulability for distributed architectures (without over-constraining the system) like, for example, the automotive applications using protocols such as Controller Area Network (CAN).

Safety Verification of Real Time Systems Serving Periodic Devices
In real-time systems response to a request from a controlled object must be correct and timely. Any late response to a request from such a device might lead to a catastrophy. The possibility of a task overrun, i.e., missing the deadline for completing a requested task, must be checked and removed during the design of such systems. Safe design of real-time systems running periodic tasks under th...
متن کاملA Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...
متن کاملComparison of Deadline-Based Scheduling Algorithms for Periodic Real-Time Tasks on Multiprocessor
Multiprocessor architecture becomes common on realtime systems as the workload of real-time systems increases. Recently new deadline-based (EDF-based) multiprocessor scheduling algorithms are devised, and comparative studies on the performance of these algorithms are necessary. In this paper, we compare EDZL, a hybrid of EDF and LLF, with other deadline-based scheduling algorithms such as EDF, ...
متن کاملDynamic Cargo Trains Scheduling for Tackling Network Constraints and Costs Emanating from Tardiness and Earliness
This paper aims to develop a multi-objective model for scheduling cargo trains faced by the costs of tardiness and earliness, time limitations, queue priority and limited station lines. Based upon the Islamic Republic of Iran Railway Corporation (IRIRC) regulations, passenger trains enjoy priority over other trains for departure. Therefore, the timetable of cargo trains must be determined based...
متن کاملMultiprocessor EDF and Deadline Monotonic Schedulability Analysis
Schedulability tests are presented for preemptive earliest-deadline-first and deadline-monotonic scheduling of periodic or sporadic real-time tasks on a singlequeue -server system, in which the deadline of a task may be less than or equal to the task period. These results subsume and generalize several known utilization-based multiprocessor schedulability tests, and are derived via an independe...
